Ailing parents seek justice into son’s custodial disappearance in Kashmir

Srinagar, January 04; 2012 : Acting on a writ petition involving custodial disappearance of a young man from Buchwara Dalgate, the High Court of occupied Kashmir has directed the  authorities to implement the recommendations of Human Rights Commission within four weeks. The Commission has called for awarding compensation and granting benefits to the victim family.

Indian HR Commission for probe into Kashmir unmarked graves

New Delhi, Jan 2, 2012: The Human Rights Commission  of India has  asked Indian Home Secretary and the Defence Secretary to probe all aspects of unmarked graves in three districts of north Kashmir.

The Human Rights Commission was moved by rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy saying that cold blooded murders were not reported by the authorities and that the family members were totally kept in dark over this.

Family approaches HC for FIR registration of 2010 Pulwama killing

Srinagar, December 27, 2011:  A victim family has approached to the High Court for compensation and registration of an FIR against the Indian troopers who killed the father of two sons in Pampore area.

Protest against atrocities of Special Operations Group in Tral

Srinagar, December 27, 2011: The residents of Tukri Batanoor in Tral area of Pulwama district staged a protest demonstration against the beating of half a dozen youth by the personnel of Special Operations Group during a crackdown operation.

According to reports, the SOG personnel cordoned off the village on December 26 night and arrested half a dozen youth during house-to-house searches. The forces beat the youth to the pulp and released them half dead following strong protests by villagers. The injured youth were shifted to hospital for treatment.

Innocent Kashmiri student languishing in Tehar jail

Srinagar, December 21, 2011: A Kashmiri student, arrested by Indian police upon his arrival at Delhi airport from Srinagar on September 12, 2006, is languishing in Tehar jail of India for the last over five years. Sanaullah Radu, father of 35-year-old Pervez Ahmad, with tear in his eyes, told media in Srinagar that his son did M.Sc in Zoology from the University of Pune in 2006. Sanaullha Radu said that on September 12, 2006, Pervez boarded a ticket and left Srinagar for New Delhi to carry out research work at the same university.

‘889 civilians injured during 2010 mass uprising in Kashmir’

Srinagar, December 19, 2011 :   Alteast 900 Kashmiri people who were injured  in 2010 mass agitation by the paramilitary forces and police men were treated only in district hospitals Srinagar, the authorities has said in reply to a RTI petition filed in this regard.

Police actions injured dozens mourners, 200 arrested

Srinagar, December 4, 2011:  Scores of mourners were injured and more than 200 including Hurriyet leaders, Masroor Abass and Nisar Ahmad Rather were arrested when Indian police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel resorted to brute force and lobbed teargas shells to prevent them from taking out 8th Muharram processions In Sriangar. The authorities had imposed restrictions in the city to prevent the Muharram procession on Sunday December 4, 2011.

FCC condemns beating of journalists, demand probe

New Delhi, November 30, 2011: In New Delhi, the Foreign Correspondents' Club (FCC) of South Asia has demanded a thorough investigation into the injuries suffered by Associated Press (AP) cameraman Umar Meraj while covering protests in Srinagar on November 25. The Club mentioned that previous appeals to investigate similar incidents involving photojournalists from Agence France Press (AFP) have gone unanswered.

The FCC urged for a thorough probe into the affair, and to take necessary actions to protect journalists covering events in Kashmir.
