Srinagar, May 01: The Jammu and Kashmir Young Journalist Association (JKYJA) in a statement to media have strongly condemned the act of government forces to stop the Journalists performing their duties. Taking strong notice of the forces Action the JKYJA has called for one hour sit in protest on the occasion of World Press Day to be observed on 03 May.
The spokesman further said that apart from being the forth pillar of Democracy the Media is the voice of all corners of life, but unfortunately we are being barred on every occasion.
“Despite authority letters from the Election Commissioner of India, the troops of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Wednesday stopped journalists from entering a polling station in Srinagar outskirts and allowed them only after police intervened.”
The spokesman further urged to the Authorities to issue the clear orders to the forces not to stop Journalists particularly on the eve of any untoward prevailing situation thereof.
“Whenever the Government imposes Curfew it is Media who has to face the harassment and humiliation by the forces to cover any event. In this connection on the eve of World Press Day on May 3 the Jammu & Kashmir Young Journalist Association calls for one hour sit in protests from 11 to 12 at Press Colony Srinagar in protest against the continuance of harassment of Journalists in Kashmir.”
The assault on journalists in South Kashmir deserves utmost condemnation.
