Teen injured in 2010, succumbs bullet injuries in Pampore

Srinagar, October 12, 2011: An injured young boy succumbed to his bullet injuries, today, in Pampore. The 18 year old boy Muzaffar Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Nabi Mir of Kadalbal Pampore who was critically injured during indiscriminate fire of Indian paramilitary forces on September 13, 2011, succumbed to his injuries. Thousands of people including JKLF Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik, senior AHPC leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Zaffar Akbar Butt, Yasmeen Raja and other leaders participated in the funeral prayer of the victim.

Meanwhile, protest strike is being observed in Pampore area.

“He underwent treatment at Soura Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar for nearly a year. He was recently shifted to his home, as his condition had deteriorated. He breathed his last this morning,” locals added.

The deceased was laid to rest at a local graveyard. Libeation leaders, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah, Showkat Bakshi and others attended his funeral prayers.

His family told media men. Mazafar Ahmad, 18, had suffered a serious injury in his spinal cord and was in a state of comma. His family said that Muzaffar passed away at his residence after he was recently shifted to his home from Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura. His condition had deteriorated since past few days, they said.

With Muzzafar's death the number of people killed during the civil unrest, last year, has reached to 124.

Ghulam Nabi Mir sold his entire land and poultry farm, his sources of income, to keep his son Muzaffar Ahmad Mir, who was seriously injured during last year’s mass uprising, alive.

Now he was planning to sell off his house for his son's further treatment, but destiny had something different in store as the 17-year-old lost a 13-month long battle with life this morning.

Hailing from Pampore Township, Ghulam, a father of six, lost the battle today.

Ghulam fails to control his emotions as he gave vent to the pain and sufferings he has gone through after his son’s fatal injury on September 13 last year.

“Only Allah knows what I went through these thirteen months,” Ghulam says as his voice shivers.

“How can any parent close his eyes to the pain and sufferings of his children I was no exception. I sold my entire land and poultry farm for his treatment but as they say, no one can change what God intends,” he says.

Recalling the day when his son was injured on September 13, 2010, Ghulam says Muzaffar left home for tuition but when he reached near Kadalbal, he says, a CRPF trooper aimed target at him along with three other boys.

“While three other boys died, my son suffered serious injury in his back,” he says, adding, “There were no protests or stone hurling at that time, around 1 PM on the day.”

He was admitted for one and half month before discharged at Soura hospital - Valley's specialized medical facility in Soura.

Then again he was admitted for a month, month and half, or fifteen days. "In all he remained in hospital for more than six months,” says Ghulam.

Ghulam, who has two more sons and three daughters, says there was no help from any quarter for the treatment of his son.

“Neither government nor any other extended any help to me during these months,” he remarks.
