Srinagar, October 16, 2011: Hundreds of people held protest demonstration against the killing of a civilian at Wachi in Shopian, today.
Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, 35, S/o Abdul Salam Lone R/o Melhora, Zainapora Wanduna Shopian of Melhura of Wachi drowned in River Jehlum after he was chased away by the Indian paramilitary forces during siege and search operation. Soon after the death , hundreds of people assembled on highway road and started protests against the killing.
The protesters said that Lone was chased away by the police personnel of Zainapora police station, Special Operations Group of Imam Sahib camp and Central Reserve Police Force. Later, hundreds of people attended the Nimaz-e-Jinazah of the victim and was buried in the local graveyard.
SP Shopian Mumtaz Ahmad immediately reached to the spot and assured the protesters that the matter would be investigated. The body was later buried in the local graveyard.
