Srinagar. 13 February 2014: A Kashmiri photojournalist working with a English daily on Thursday was assaulted by Indian forces in Pinjora area of Shupain district.
Sajad Ahmad Dar, who was returning to Islamabad (Anantnag) district after covering a clash between liberation activists and the Indian troops with army’s 44 RR and paramilitary forces in Pinjoora was beaten up and his cameras damaged by the paramilitary Cnetral Reserve Police Force troopers and police personnel, when the area was witnessing massive demonstrations against the killings of activists of Hizb-ul Mujahideen. Due to the d beating, Sajad Ahmad Dar also suffered injuries in his hand.
“I was returning from the encounter site when the Indian forces grabbed me and beat me mercilessly. They also damaged my cameras,” Dar said. I was clicking pictures of the site where the two Hizb-ul Mujahideen members were killed when the Indian forces appeared from behind and, without asking me anything, started assaulting me. They even broke my camera which has cost worth lakhs of rupees, he said.
During pro-freedom and anti-India protests at least nine people were injured in the violent police actions.
Meanwhile, Islamabad (Anantnag) Working Journalists Association on Feb 14 condemned the attack on Photo Journalist Sajad Ahmad Dar.
Association said that a group of policemen caught the Photo Journalist and thrashed him during which he sustained serious injuries in lift arm. Policemen also damaged cameras of Photo Journalist Sajad Ahmad who is sole bread and butter earner for his family. Association while condemning this action of police has demanded a through probe into the incident.
