Srinagar, August 15, 2012: A local Imam was injured after shot at by unknown gunmen at Kotranka area in Rajouri district, late this evening.
Muhammad Taj, Imam of a local Masjid at Kotranka in Rajouri district was sustained bullet injuries in his left leg when unidentified gunmen fired upon him from a close range in Kotranka village late Wednesday evening, official sources told Global News Service.
The Imam was immediately rushed to nearby hospital for treatment. However, his condition is stated to be stable, sources said.
Meanwhile, police has registered a case for attempt to murder and started investigations in this regard, a police officer said, adding that a hunt has been launched to nab the assailants.
However, assailants managed to escape after carrying out the attack. As the word about the incident spread people took to the streets and staged protests. They gave three days ultimatum to the administration and police to trace the assailants failing which they threatened to launch an agitation.
Police said that it has registered a case for attempt to murder and started investigations. “Preliminary investigation reveal that there was some dispute regarding the appointment of Imam in the local Masjid, which could be one of the reason behind the attack but we are looking into it,” a police officer said.
Meanwhile, one person died when an Indian Army vehicle bearing registration number 073081758 hit a load carrier bearing registration number JK03B/3244 at Sarnal, Islamabad, resulting in critical injuries to the driver of the Load Carrier, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din resident of Ahoo Paisan, Islamabad.
The injured was shifted to District Hospital Islamabad where he succumbed to his injuries. After completing all medico-legal formalities the body of deceased was handed over to his relatives for last rites. Police has registered a case in this regard.
