Kashmir: Tale of a mechanic who disappeared in BSF camp -January 17, 1995

Srinagar,: Jul 4 2015 : The mechanic Gulzar Ahmad Wagay used to repair vehicles and was living a happy life at Sheilpora village in south Kashmir’s  Islamabad (Anantnag) district. Being a hard worker and good mechanic, Gulzar never let his clients down and had a good clientele.
However, Gulzar’s dream to establish a full-fledged car repair center in neighbouring Achabal town was shattered  by the  Indian paramilitary   Border Security Force (BSF).
On January 17, 1995, it was a cold winter morning, when Gulzar was  taken to a nearby BSF camp with a message that some vehicles of the forces need to be repaired, his relatives said.
He left for the camp without wasting any time to make some money. Since then family of Gulzar is waiting for him to return. “The BSF is responsible for ruining the live of the family,” relatives of Gulzar said.
When Gulzar failed to return home, worried family contacted the camp in-charge. "To our surprise, BSF refused to even acknowledge that Gulzar had been to the camp," they said. "We are sure that he will return someday. He was innocent and had nothing to do with politics."
Villagers and relatives of Gulzar visited the BSF camp many a times, but their pleas failed to mellow down the BSF officials. Losing hope, the family approached a nearby police station. "We approached the SHO Achabal and sought his help. Neither the officer helped nor did he lodge any FIR," relatives said.
The police officer tried to avoid us by playing various tricks. We are sure he (officer) knew what actually had happened with Gulzar, they added.
