A civilian has succumbed to injuries he sustained after a joint party of  Indian Army 1 Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF )  resorted to tear gas shelling and bullets to quell a demonstration late Sunday in the village in Khudwani area, police said.
The forces bullets and tear gas shelling, resulting in injuries to a civilian identified as Asif Ahmad of Redwani Bala.Witnesses, however, said that Ahmad was hit by a bullet,he  was evacuated to a hospital in the district where he breathed his last, hospital sources said.
‘The family and these four sisters were totally depended on Asif Ahmad who used to work at a private cellular outlet. The family is finished now. Three among four sisters are unmarried, father is too feeble to carryout farming,” said a wailing relative of the slain youth . 
The father and the friends of victim youth said that Asif Ahmed Tantray was not a part of the protest. “He was standing alone at a solitary place when bullet hit him. Asif had come out to look for his mother who had gone to fetch milk.  The Government Forces in a bid to disperse the protesters. “He was shot dead by government forces when protesters pelted stones on them,” Sanaullah Tantray, the father of the slain youth said.
Meanwhilie, Indian troops and police personnel went on a rampage in Redwani area of Kulgam district during a siege and search operation. The shopkeepers told mediamen that the troops and policemen damaged the shutters of their shops and ransacked the items present there. “The shutters of our shops were damaged and the goods present there were looted and ransacked,” a group of shopkeepers said. Manzoor Ahmed Dar, who owns a medical shop, Muhammad Ashraf Butt, the proprietor of a readymade garments shop and Ghulam Nabi Wani, the owner of a fertilizer store and others were seen busy in collecting their items lying in scattering form on the road.
Manzoor Ahmed Dar said that the forces’ personnel broke the shutter and looted the medicines and cash there.
Muhammad Ashraf Butt stated that after failing to control the protesters, the troops and police personnel always target innocent people. “Look at these pants and shirts and sweaters. They all need washing and nobody will be ready to purchase them. I still don’t know who many pants and shirts are missing from my shop,” he said.
