Srinagar, July 25,2011: An Indian Army trooper who attempted to molest a girl student in Hyderbeg in Patan area of Baramulla district this morning has been held for questioning, sources told Kashmir Dispatch.
Eyewitnesses said a girl student of Yatipora village of Pattan in Baramulla district was on way to her school when an Army man intercepted her near Hyderbeg and tried to molest her. The girl, eyewitnesses said raised an alarm before escaping from the clutches of the trooper.
The incident triggered massive anti-Indian and anti-Army demonstrations in the area. Hundreds of men, women and children shouting “We want freedom,”” Go India Go Back,” assembled on the Srinagar- Baramulla highway and demanded stern action against the trooper. The protests were going on when this report was filed.
Eyewitnesses said Constable Desmukh of 10 Sector of army was detained by police after massive protests broke out in Pattan against the molestation bid on a school girl near Wangiam village of the district.
The trooper, sources said, is being questioned at the Sub-Divisional Police Office (SDPO) in presence of senior Army and police officers. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Bashir Ahmad Bhat has also reached the SDPO office.
“The girl and her parents have also been brought to the SDPO office. The statement of girl is being recorded,” sources said.
