Srinagar, Monday, February 9th, 2015: A 23-year old youth was killed and another three were injured when Indian paramiltary forces opened fire on unarmed people at Palhalan Pattan in Baramulla distric. The locals said that the protesters were demanding that the mortal remains of Moahmmad Afzal Guru be returned so that they are offered decent buria’ in his home place Doabgah Sopore in Kashmir The witnesses said Indian Central Reserve Police Forces fired upon protesters resulting in injuries to three persons. “The injured were immediately rushed to hospital where a youth identified as Farooq Ahmad(23) of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, resident of Bhagat Mohallah, Palhalan succumbed to his injuries,” locals said.
One Farooq Ahmad Bhat S/O Ghulam Ahmad Bhat R/O Bhagat Mohallah, Palhallan and others were protesting and demanding the mortals remains of Guru when indian forces opened fire and killed him.
The police while confirming the incident said: “Two persons sustained injuries in a firing incident in Palhallan. One injured Farooq Ahmad Bhat S/O Ghulam Ahmad Bhat R/O Bhagat Mohallah, Palhallan succumbed to injuries on way to hospital.”
Another injured person Riyaz Ahamad Bhat of Palhalan, the police said, is undergoing treatment in hospital.
“Police has taken cognizance into this highly regrettable and unfortunate incident,” the police officials said. “FIR has been registered and the incident is being investigated to ascertain the facts.”
Guru, was secretly executed in Delhi’s Tihar jail on February 9, 2013. His family said he was not given a fair trial. Officials said the police and CRPF personnel, who fired tear smoke shells to dispers protesters. The forces then fired bullets the protestors resulting in death of Farooq Ahmad Bhat and injuries to Reyaz Ahmad Dar, who has been shifted to a hospital for treatment, they said.
